Duet

The Double Piano duet is the meeting of two talented interpreters united by passion for the repertoire of two pianos and piano for four hands.

Anne-Céline Barrère and Nicolaï Maslenko, respectively from Perpignan and Odessa, both graduates of the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris, create the Double Piano duet in 2006.

Winner of first prizes of international competitions, the duet in particular won first prize of the international Grieg competition in Oslo in two pianos. It benefits the advice of Christian Ivaldi, Daria Hovora and Christoph Eschenbach. These famous artists brought them fantasy and freedom of interpretation, based on the largest respect of the score.

The Double Piano duet likes to explore the rich repertoire of piano for four hands and of two pianos, from major classics to contemporary works, approaching works by Mozart, Schubert, Brahms, or Stravinsky, Bartok, Ligeti...

The Double Piano duet takes its inspiration in contact with the lyrical world, great conductors and stage directors, and creates new and unexpected forms of musical show, uniting on stage with the singers, narrators, dancers... It thereby takes part in the show : "La Valse perdue" by Offenbach, with the mezzo- soprano Isabelle Druet and the baritone Marc Mauillon, "Jardin d’enfance" by Bizet with the soprano Olivera Topalovic.

Invited to the "Olivier Messiaen" festival at la Meije, the Double Piano duet also performs in Paris with the Cologne Orchestra at the Salle Gaveau, at the Sacha Guitry studio of Maison de Radio France, at the Carnavalet museum, at the Odessa Philharmony hall, at the Besançon musical theater...

In the occasion of Claude Debussy's 150th anniversary, the Double Piano duet recorded their first CD (produced by their own label "Double Piano") offering a comparative and enriching look on works by C. Debussy and M. Ravel.

The Double Piano duet will shortly perform at the Saint-Étienne Opera in "Romantisme et Virtuosité", a program for two pianos, and at the "Estivales de Médoc" festival in Paris in "Impressions russes", a four hands' recital, and in the "Nuits de Corté" festival.

"It is with pride and enthusiasm that we wish to hoist this rare formation to the expectations of its magnificient repertoire. Thus it seems essential to interpret the music by memory, so as to entirely render our listening free and creative."
